The Challenge
Construction workers frequently operate in environments with poor network connectivity, leading to delayed time logs and lost documentation. Additionally, reliably tracking employee location in the background without severely draining device batteries or being killed by the mobile OS posed a significant technical hurdle.
The Solution
We engineered a resilient offline-first architecture using a local queue system to cache time events and media, syncing automatically when connectivity returns. We optimized the background location tracking using specialized watchdogs to prevent OS hibernation. Heavy processing tasks—such as OpenAI audio transcriptions and large Google Drive file uploads—were offloaded to Firebase 2nd-Gen Cloud Functions to preserve device performance.
